Ashton meets Coptic Pope Tawadros II

EU High Representative Catherine Ashton held talks with Leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church Pope Tawadros II in the cathedral church here on Wednesday evening. The state news agency (MENA) reported that Pope Tawadros II has reiterated, during the meeting, the Orthodox Church support to the army-backed political roadmap. The Pope also briefed the EU official about the terrorist attacks against Christians and their properties since August 14. Wednesday evening, Ashton held talks with representatives of Muslim Brotherhood political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party and the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy and Reject the Coup. Earlier on the day, she held meetings with Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, as well as President of the Constitutional Committee Amr Moussa and Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed Al Tayeb. During her three-day visit, Ashton will also hold talks with key members of Egypt\'s interim administration, including the prime minister, president, and army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi
