The African Union (AU) has on Friday strongly condemned the attack against the patrol of peacekeepers of the AU-UN hybrid operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in Sudan's Darfur region. In a statement released on Friday, AU said that Jean Ping, the outgoing Chairperson of the AU Commission, has strongly condemned the attack against a patrol of peacekeepers of UNAMID in the evening of Oct. 2, in El Geneina, west Darfur. The ambush by unidentified armed men led to the death of four Nigerian peacekeepers, while eight other sustained injuries. The chairperson has presented the AU's heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, the families of the deceased peacekeepers and UNAMID. He called on the government of Sudan to spare no efforts in identifying the perpetrators of this cowardly attack and bringing them to justice swiftly.
