Awqaf minister: Azhar leads Islamic action in Egypt, world

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa has said that Al Azhar is the leading institution of Islamic ideology and action in Egypt and the whole world.
Islamic and Christian institutions in Egypt work together to promote peaceful coexistence among all citizens without isolation or discrimination, Gomaa said in statements on Friday.
Those institutions will never allow terrorist and extremist groups to undermine national unity, the minister said, stressing that "our real battle is with the extremist ideologies and terrorist groups."
"Our main concern is to maintain our religious values and correct wrong concepts promoted by the terrorist and takfiri groups."
