
The Southern region marks Bahrain's celebrations of its National Days on December 16 and 17, proud of its landmark development and infrastructure strides. The area witnessed a major infrastructure leap forward, with a string of revamped avenues and trade-oriented streets, in addition a new road network. In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), Southern Municipal Council Chairman Mohsen Ali Al-Bakri stressed the importance of the southern region on the map of Bahrain. He outlined the string of landmark projects which materialized so far, pointing out that other key development schemes are in the pipeline to upgrade facilities and streamline procedures for citizens in all sectors. Marking the Kingdom of Bahrain's celebrations of its National Days on December 16 and 17, the anniversary of the establishment of the modern state of Bahrain as an Arab and Muslim country in 1783 by its founder Ahmed Al-Fateh, the 42nd Anniversary of its accession to the UN as a full member and the 14th Anniversary of HM's Accession to the Throne, Bahrain Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran Rashid bin Saad Al-Dosary held a reception party, he extended congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister. The string of landmark achievements also included model public parks, , walkways, sewerage networks, revamped dilapidated houses, rain-proofing of housing units. Southern Municipal Council Chairman Mohsen Ali Al-Bakri also pointed out other key projects which saw the light, including Askar harbour, playgrounds, rainwater drainage network, groundwater reservoirs. He announced that one-kilometre revamped beachfront will also be inaugurated within the coming months in a project costing BD500,000. Other planned projects also include in particular schools and public parks and social centre in Hunainya and Wadi Al-Seel, a walkway in Zallaq, a public park in Askar, a pedestrian flyover in East Riffa
