Geneva - BNA

The Minister of Human Rights Affairs, Dr. Salah bin Ali Abdul-Rahman, and the official accompanying delegation met with the Geneva-based Mexican Permanent Representative, Ambassador Juan Jose Gomez, on the sidelines of the 24th Session of the UN Human Rights Council as part of continual efforts by the official delegation to show the true facts and respond to fallacies. The Minister thanked the Mexican representative on providing the opportunity to the Bahraini delegation to present latest human rights developments. The Minister and the Mexican Ambassador explored the current and latest developments of human rights situation in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the accomplishments made in the past two years, citing the Royal Decree which stipulated the creation of the Commission of the Rights of Prisoners and Detainees which is unique and unprecedented in the region aimed to safeguard and boost the rights of prisoners and detainees up to the relevant international standards. The Minister of Human Rights Affairs also cited escalation of acts of violence and terrorism by saboteurs in the Kingdom of Bahrain, urging the world to understand the situation in Bahrain before making any hasty pre-judgments. The Minister said that these acts of terrorism led to issuance of the National Assembly recommendations not to breach human rights nor to curtail freedoms as some organisations and countries alleged but first and foremost to eradicate terrorism and to dry up its sources. These recommendations aim to preserve the national fabric of the Bahraini community without impacting on basic freedoms and also aim to rehabilitate youths who have been exploited by inciters in committing crimes and acts of terrorism. The Mexican Ambassador thanked the Minister of Human Rights for his detailed explanation and reply to the questions posed by the Ambassador who said that now he understands issues in Bahrain, especially the latest escalation of violence and its impact on Bahrain\'s security and stability. The Mexican Ambassador in Geneva said that his country also understands such political complexities, stressing the need for the law to prevail and for everybody to respect the law in order to give more credibility to the Bahraini Government. And regarding Mexico\'s joining the joint communique, he said that this communique does not have any future consequences nor any obligations towards the UN Human Rights Council. He said that this communique regarding the developments which occurred in the Kingdom and should not bear more than what is possible. The Ambassador expressed his country\'s readiness to assist Bahrain at the UN Human Rights Council or through bilateral relations, inviting to get to know the Mexican experience and to exchange expertise between the two countries related to rights issues. The Minister also thanked the Mexican Ambassador for this meeting and aspired for more communications and furthering bilateral relations between the two countries.
