UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had a phone conversation with each of the newly elected Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi and Field Marshal Hussien Tantawi. A statement released Thursday by the UN secretary - General's spokesperson said that Ban congratulated Morsi for his election-win, wishing all Egyptians would "be able to realize their aspirations for greater democracy, the promotion of human rights, and a more prosperous and stable country." He also expressed appreciation to Field Marshal Hussien Tantawi "for his leadership in having the elections transpire in a peaceful and transparent manner," noting meantime that "the elections did not mark the end of a process but an end of one phase in the process towards democracy." "The Secretary-General said he would do his best to mobilize support from the international community to ensure success for Egypt", the statement added.
