Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel called the Brussels attacks "blind, violent and cowardly", saying they were a "tragic moment in our country's history. I would like to call on everyone to show calmness and solidarity".
Speaking at a news conference in Brussels, Michel says “there are many dead, many injured” from the attacks earlier Tuesday at the airport and a subway station, the BBC TV aired excerpts from the news conference. He said border controls have been reinforced.
“We must follow up this situation minute-by-minute with different security and rescue services. I would like to thank security services for the work they carried out.”
“We were fearing terror attacks but that have now happened in Zaventem airport and at the metro station in Brussels,” he said.
