At least two people were killed and 10 others injured Monday when a car bomb exploded near a police station in Khuchni town in Dagestan. The Russian news agency Itar-tass reported that the two dead people are policemen. It noted that the car was loaded with 70kg of highly-explosive materials. Attacks on security forces, police and civilians occur regularly in Dagestan and are understood to be generated by ethnic, religious and political rivalries, as well as poverty and corruption. The violence is also fed by an insurgency, which originated in the neighboring republic of Chechnya after a series of bloody post-Soviet separatist wars, and has spread across the North Caucasus in recent years
