Three passengers on board the Turkish airline Pegasus on a flight from Istanbul to Tymbou (Ercan) airport in the north were arrested on Sunday evening by Turkish Cypriot police after they claimed there was a bomb on the plane, reports from the north said on Monday.
According to Yeni Dizen, the flight landed at Tymbou at 10.45pm and police entered the plane to arrest the trio after crew reported the incident. The plane, according to the Cyprus News Agency, was searched into the early hours but nothing was found.
Remaining night flights were canceled and many passengers were forced to stay at the airport for hours until investigations were completed.
Halkin Sesi wrote that two people were arrested and during interrogation told police they had been joking.
