
Brazil announced its pledge of USD 300,000 to the joint initiative for Syria set-up by UNHCR and UNESCO at a donors conference in Kuwait on Wednesday. The amount will target education programmes launched by the two UN agencies, Brazilian Charge dAffaires to Kuwait Joao Tabajara de Oliveira told attendees of the second international pledging conference for Syria. Since the start of the year, Brazil has already dispatched three batches of aid worth USD 130,000, and in last years conference - also held in Kuwait - it presented USD 250,000, he added. The Brazilian diplomat said that his nation believed in the importance of a political solution to the conflict. He also said Brazil would be easing the processing of visas for Syrians intending to head to Brazil.
