London - Arabstoday

Over two thousand British campaigners and human rights activists rallied outside the Israeli embassy in London to express solidarity with Palestinians on Friday, 30 March. The international solidarity act, entitled the “Global March to Jerusalem (al-Quds)” was planned to mark the Palestinian Land Day. The Palestinian Land Day reminds the world of the crimes committed by the Israeli regime forces in March 1976 when they killed and wounded several Palestinians who protested the confiscation of their lands by Israel. On 11 March, 1976, the Israeli regime published its expropriation plan to confiscate Palestinians’ lands in order to further expand their illegal settlements and build military training camps. On 29 March, Israel imposed a curfew in a bid to stop Palestinians from protesting the confiscation of their lands. However, on 30 March, Palestinian activists called for protests and people took part in demonstrations. Israeli regime’s forces killed at least 6 people and wounded over 100 Palestinians. Hundreds of Palestinians were also arrested. The protests outside the Israeli embassy in London is quite significant considering Britain’s leading role in the creation of the Zionist state which would not be possible without Arthur Balfour, Britain’s foreign secretary from 1916 to 1919. Today, Britain’s relentless commitment to the Zionist regime’s interests is manifested in British Prime Minister David Cameron’s comments upon becoming the country’s premier: “In me, you have a prime minister whose belief in Israel is indestructible... I want to be clear, we will always support Israel.” British activists rallying outside the Israeli embassy on Friday carried placards reading “Free Palestine,” “End Israeli Apartheid,” and “End Israel’s ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem.” Meanwhile, in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli regime’s forces killed one Palestinian and injured over 300 others as they attacked protesters marking the Palestinian Land Day.
