A British soldier has died after being injured during an insurgent attack in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported. The soldier, from 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment, was injured in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province yesterday. He was flown to hospital for treatment but died of his injuries, a spokesman said. The death takes to 441 the number of UK service members who have lost their lives since operations in Afghanistan began in October 2001 and the third to die so far in 2013. There are around 9,500 UK troops in Afghanistan, the majority in the tense southern Helmand province, a hotbed of the insurgency in the war-torn country.
