The Cabinet on Monday said the recently enacted US law allowing citizens to sue the Kingdom over the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks represented a threat to international relations and urged Congress to act to prevent any serious repercussions from the new legislation.
The Cabinet on Monday held its weekly meeting in the capital, which was chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, during which JASTA was discussed as a matter of priority.
Minister of Culture and Information Adel Toraifi told the media after the meeting that the Cabinet stressed that the adoption of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) law by the United States is of great concern to the international community, whose relations have been governed for hundreds of years by the principles of equality and sovereign immunity, and that the weakening of the sovereign immunity will negatively affect all countries, including the US.
He also expressed hope that wisdom will prevail and the US Congress will take the necessary steps to avoid serious and grave consequences that may result from enacting JASTA.
The Cabinet commended the visit to Turkey by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, during which he met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and stressed the Kingdom's keenness, under the leadership of King Salman, to strengthen the strategic partnership with Turkey in various fields.
The two countries hold identical views on various regional and international issues, and the crown prince's talks — during the visit he undertook to Turkey upon the king’s directives — with Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and other senior Turkish government officials will contribute to enhancing cooperation between the two sisterly countries in various fields.
The Cabinet passed in review the discussions held by the crown prince and the accompanying delegation with their Turkish counterparts, which resulted in agreements of cooperation in several fields.
The Cabinet also stressed that the Kingdom is keen to see the international oil market stable in the interest of producing and consuming countries alike, as well as to the benefit of the oil industry and the global economy, and is ready to contribute to any collective action to achieve this goal.
