Cairo center attracts protestors with diverse demands

Scores of Egyptians flocked to Al-Tahrir Square in the heart of the capital on Friday to take part in a demonstration called by several parties promoting various political and social demands. Under the banner, \"Egypt is not a farm, it is for all Egyptians,\" the activists gathered at the center of the city, calling for a consensus constitution, new pay scale, punishment of officials who were responsible for death of protestors and combating administrative corruption. Conditions in and around the square, the birth place of the revolution that ousted the regime of Hosni Mubarak, appeared generally calm in the early hours of the day, with normal traffic flow on streets and roads. A nearby park was decorated with various political placards and banners, some reading, \"we want a constitution for all Egyptians.\" Medics equipped with ambulances were stationed around the square in anticipation for possible violence. Several national, left-wing and liberal parties, critical of the rule of President Mohammed Morsi of the Islamic Brotherhood, have called for participation in the demonstration. Morsi has recently dissolved the military council that had governed the nation, on interim basis, following downfall of Mubarak\'s regime. The nation, despite ouster of Mubarak\'s regime, continues to witness heated political debates over a long chain of issues, such as power-sharing, social needs, development, prospects of peace with Israel and corruption.
