Cameron opens the International Conf. on Somalia

British Prime Minister David Cameron opened here Tuesday the International Conference on Somalia with the participation of representatives of 50 countries and regional and international organizations, including the United Nations, European Union and Arab League. Prince Saud Al Faisal, the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led his country\'s delegation to the conference. Addressing the conference, Cameron called for supporting the African peace-keeping forces in Somalia, noting that Somalia problems affect, not only Somalia, but all of us, citing the sea pirates incidents and terror-oriented rebel organizations. He appealed to the world community to provide humanitarian and developmental assistance to Somalia to rescue some drought-and-starvation-hit 750,000 people in that country. He also called for reviving the political process in Somalia that will unite the ranks of all Somalis. A number of world leaders and senior officials also spoke on the issue.
