Canada to provide Jordan with $100m to aid Syrian refugees

Canada said Sunday it will provide Amman with 100 million U.S. dollars over the next three years to help reduce the pressure on Jordan in dealing with the influx of Syrian refugees, state-run Petra news agency reported. Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird told his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh at a meeting here that Canada will provide Jordan with 25 million dollars as direct assistance to the government, while the remaining 75 million dollars will be in the form of humanitarian assistance. At the meeting, Judeh referred to the pressure Jordan is facing due to hosting a large number of Syrian refugees, which has now exceeded 540,000. He also reiterated Jordan\'s call for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
