
Chad held the first round of presidential election on Sunday, in which 13 candidates, including the current President Idriss Deby, vied to become the next president for five years.
According to the Chadian electoral commission, around 6 million registered voters are supposed to vote on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at different polling stations all over the country.
An official from the electoral commission told Xinhua that the result from the first round of presidential election will come out after two weeks.
If no candidate wins majority, then a second round is necessary to be held.
Deby, the president of ruling Patriotic Salavation Movement which was founded by himself in 1990, became president in March, 1991. He was elected as president in 1996 and reelected in 2001, 2006 and 2011.
