
The Chinese government on Thursday donated essential items worth 2 million U.S. dollars to assist in the resettlement of internally displaced person in South Sudan.
The Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, Ma Qiang handed over the donations that included 2,050 tents, 8000 mosquito nets, 16,000 blankets and two sports utility vehicles to senior government officials in the capital, Juba.
"I feel honored to hand over essential items to aid resettlement of displaced persons," Ma said, adding that Beijing will assist South Sudan embark on the path of healing and reconstruction.
The ambassador applauded the unity government in Juba for its commitment to helping rebuild lives of victims of the civil strife that erupted in South Sudan in December 2013.
China has not only supported cessation of conflicts in South Sudan but has also been a major source of humanitarian assistance for the displaced population.
Ma said that China will lend support to promote development and stability in South Sudan.
"As a true friend and sincere partner of South Sudan, China will continuously provide support as the country embark on reconstruction," said Ma.
Clement Taban Dominic, the undersecretary in the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management thanked China for its support towards rebuilding of South Sudan.
"The latest donation from China is timely and will boost ongoing efforts to rebuild lives of our citizens who were displaced by political turmoil," Dominic remarked.
