China supports Brahimi’s Syria ceasefire plan

China on Thursday said it supported a temporary ceasefire in Syria brokered by UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi. China was pleased by the “positive reaction” to Brahimi’s ceasefire proposal, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters. “We hope all relevant parties in Syria will adopt a sincere approach and take concrete measures to support and cooperate with United Nations’ envoy Brahimi’s proposal,” Hong said. Hong urged all sides to “seize the opportunity” to end the violence in Syria and promote dialogue on a political transition as soon as possible.
