Chizhov: Ukraine’s accession in EU will take no less than millennium

If Ukraine accedes in the European Union, this will happen not earlier than in a millennium, Russian Permanent Representative at the European Union Vladimir Chizhov told reporters at a meeting of the chiefs of the ITAR-TASS offices in European countries here on Friday. “If Ukraine signs an association agreement with the EU at an EU Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November, this is not obvious that all 28 EU states will ratify it. It is also not ruled out that the agreement will be signed not completely and only its political part may be signed, and the clause about the creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade zone will be left for consideration in the future,” he noted. Meanwhile, Vladimir Chizhov stated many times before that the association agreement has nothing in common with Ukraine’s possible membership in the EU, which the EU has never offered to that country directly.
