Clinton: US, Israel friends

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Israeli President Shimon Peres friends \"like us think together and act together,\" at a meeting Monday. Talking about the transformation in the Middle East in the wake of the Arab Spring, Clinton told the Israeli president at his Jerusalem residence, \"Friends like us think together and act together,\" The Jerusalem Post reported. Earlier, she met with Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman as protesters outside the Foreign Ministry building called for the release of Jonathan Pollard, a convicted American intelligence analyst convicted of spying for Israel, the Times of Israel said. Clinton who arrived in Israel Sunday landed as White House National Security Adviser Tom Donilon was leaving, The Post said. Donilon met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and National Security Adviser Ya\'acov Amidror during his two day visit. It is Clinton\'s fourth visit to Israel. She arrived after a two-day trip to Egypt where she met with newly elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi. Clinton is expected to discuss the Iranian nuclear threat and attempt to bring about a resumption of talks between Israel and the Palestinians in meetings with senior Israeli government officials, the Times of Israel said. Egypt is also expected to be high on the agenda, Israeli officials told The Post. The unnamed officials said Israel is keen to hear her impressions of the situation in Cairo and the best way to move the Israeli-Egyptian relationship forward, the paper said. Clinton is scheduled to meet with Barak and Netanyahu, as well as Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. She will not be meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as the two met in Paris two weeks ago, the Post said.
