Congolese war crime suspect to be handed to ICC

Congolese war crimes suspect Bosco Ntaganda handed himself on Monday over to the United States embassy in Rwanda. The man nicknamed “The Terminator” will be transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague. Ntaganda, who is about 40-years-old, has been on the run from the ICC since 2006. He was charged with using child soldiers in his militia during the Republic of Congo’s civil war. Spokesman of the US State Department Victoria Nuland said today that Ntaganda asked to be transferred to the International Criminal Court in Hague. The US is discussing facilitating the request with the Rwandan government, Nuland added. Ntaganda is one of the leaders of M23, a militia group in battle with government of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The group has split into two factions that were fighting one another.
