Conservatives leading in El Salvador election

A right-wing party is holding a slim advantage in the legislative election in El Salvador, according to preliminary results. With almost all ballots counted, the Nationalist Republican Alliance is set to get 33 of a total of 84 seats in the Legislative Assembly. The ruling Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front has won 31 seats. Former president Elias Saca’s coalition is set to receive 11 seats with another nine to be distributed between four different minor parties. The election was seen as a referendum on the administration of current President Mauricio Funes, the first left-wing elected leader since the end of the civil war in 1992.
