Several representatives of the Syrian opposition stressed that national unity and the sovereignty of Syria were redlines that could not be crossed, said a statement late on Friday. The final communique of the opposition meeting in Cordoba, Spain, said that the international community should support a Syrian state governed by rules, democracy, and freedom of speech, noting that such notions would not exist in the presence of Bashar Al-Assads regime. It went on saying that the (Geneva) conference that had been held and the (Gevena II) conference, scheduled on January 22nd, should be the cornerstones for upcoming peace accords for Syria, adding that any plans for transition in Syria should go through political means.Finding a solution that would result in a ceasefire and the flaw-free distribution of relief aid is an important factor to achieve peace in Syria, affirmed the communique which also called for a national salvation conference to unite the forces of the opposition, especially within Syria.Around 130 members of political parties and civil society groups as well as religious and social leaders attended the meeting.
