Court dismisses attempt to revive Oklahoma abortion drug law

The US Supreme Court Monday dismissed an attempt to revive an Oklahoma law restricting abortion-inducing drugs. In a one-line order, the justices said an earlier agreement to hear the case was "improvidently granted." Though there was no explanation, the high court uses that language when it wants the lower courts to examine the issue more thoroughly. Oklahoma had asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review an earlier decision by the Oklahoma Supreme Court that the law was unconstitutionally burdensome. The law required that abortion-inducing drugs such as RU-386 and others be administered under label protocols designed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration -- the Oklahoma high court said that would have effectively banned such abortions in the state.
