Croatia to hold January referendum on EU membership

Croats will vote in a referendum on EU membership on January 22, President Ivo Josipovic said Monday. "(EU) membership is a great opportunity, which we need to use well," he said. The European Union has set July 1, 2013 as Croatia''s entry date. The former Yugoslav republic is expected to win an easy majority in favour of joining the EU. Recent polls indicate that two-thirds of the electorate is in favour, dpa reported.
