Cuba receives humanitarian aid from US NGO

Cuba received 100 tons of humanitarian aid Friday from a U.S. non-governmental group (NGO) opposed to its country's embargo on the Caribbean nation. The four shipping containers and five vehicles of assistance, including educational materials and medical supplies, were collected by the Pastors for Peace movement from the United States and Canada. The Pastors for Peace movement was founded in 1992 by U.S. Baptist minister Lucius Walker, who led the efforts until his death in 2010. Besides its efforts against the Cuba blockade, the group also helps Haiti and others in need. According to Cuban authorities, the U.S. blockade affects particularly the sectors of health and education, with economic losses estimated at over 975 billion U.S. dollars besides "uncountable human damage."
