Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Tuesday congratulated the country's police and foreign ministry for their efforts to end the hijacking of an Egyptian plane at the Cypriot Larnaca airport.
"Congratulations to the Cyprus Police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their efforts to end the hijacking and ensure the safety of all passengers and crew," Anastasiades tweeted.
Earlier, the Cypriot Foreign Ministry announced that the hijacked Egyptian plane situation is over and its hijacker has been arrested.
The EgyptAir Airbus A320, with 50 passengers on board along with seven cabin crew members and one security officer, was hijacked earlier in the day and forced to land in Cyprus.
Flight MS181 passenger plane was originally travelling from Alexandra's Borg El Arab Airport to Cairo.
