
Ambassador Jiri Slavik underscored the reliable bilateral ties binding the Czech Republic and Saudi Arabia as his country celebrates its 98th anniversary of independence on Friday.
“The Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are enjoying respectable bilateral ties which have grown over the years, and still keep growing,” the Czech ambassador told Arab News.
He added that his government was looking forward to the future with optimism that the bilateral ties will scale greater heights through close collaboration in various sectors.
He said that trade between the two countries touched more than $600 million last year, pointing out that “there’s much room for further increase.”
Referring to the scope of cooperation in various fields, the ambassador said that Czech brands are well known in the Kingdom as industrial products or technology, adding that many Saudis know about Czech spas, rehabilitation centers, marvelous nature and rich history.
He said that the two countries also have close collaboration in other sectors like construction, defense, agriculture, health and rehabilitation, railway transport, integrated urban transport and education.
“We also see a lot of opportunities in the fields of technologies, nanotechnology and renewable energy, and we will continue to support businesses on both sides,” he said.
The ambassador added that the two countries go a long way back, adding that during the Gulf War, Czech troops took part alongside allies deployed in the Kingdom.
He noted that the Czech troops gave a good account of themselves, adding that “our common goal is to present the Czech Republic as a reliable partner and a country that boasts of skilled manpower as well as a preferred choice for business and tourism.”
