Dabajo chosen new JEM leader

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), the signatory to the Doha Peace Agreement in Darfur, held its extraordinary general conference yesterday in North Darfur state in the presence of all members. JEM political adviser Nahar Osman said that the movement appointed Bakhit Abd-El-Karim (Dabajo) as leader of the Movement to replace its late leader Mohamed Bashar, who was killed in an ambush by Jibril Ibrahim faction on the Chadian-Sudanese border. In a press statements, Osman said that during the extraordinary conference they stressed on the need to stop the tribal wars in Darfur and the continuation of the peace efforts. However, after Bashar death, the group designated Dabajo as acting leader and said that a new leader will be elected within two months. On Tuesday the group announced that Dajabo has been officially and unanimously chosen as new chairman of the group and disclosed his arrival to Khartoum within ten days. \"The general conference today (Tuesday) by an unanimous vote elected Dabajo as new leader of the movement\", Osman said who was speaking with (Sudan Tribune) from undisclosed place in North Darfur via a satellite telephone. He further said that the advance delegation will reach Khartoum within a week, maximum, to prepare Dabajo\'s arrival.
