
In yet another shocking incident, a 51-year old Danish tourist was gang raped by more than six men in the Indian capital New Delhi, Police said Wednesday. Police said the incident happened near the New Delhi Railway station Tuesday night when six men at knife -point abducted the woman and gang raped her.The victim was returning to her hotel located in Paharganj locality when she lost her way and was later taken to an undisclosed location by six men and assaulted physically, adding, the rapists also robbed her money and valuables which she was carrying, said police.The police added they came to know about the incident when the Danish lady informed the hotel management who in turn called the police.The incident has sent shock waves in the country with much of the Indian media covering it and questioning the safety of women in the country. The victim was taken to her country's embassy after she recorded her statement with the police.Police said they have so far arrested fifteen suspects in connection with the gang-rape incident. In December 2012, the national capital Delhi including whole of India went into a state of shock when a 23-year-old female was beaten and gang raped in a bus in which she was travelling with her male companion.Rapes are prevalent in India. According to official records a rape is reported every 20 minutes. National Crimes Records Bureau (NCRB), reported there were 228,650 reported crimes committed against women in 2011, an increase of seven percent from 2010.
