David Cameron tours Syrian refugee camp in Jordan

The British Prime Minister David Cameron reiterated on Wednesday he would agree to a “safe departure” of the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad to stop bloodshed and set the ground for a transitional period. He made the statements during a tour of a Syrian refugee camp in Jordan. Tens of thousands of fleeing Syrians are living at the vast Al Zaatari UN-run compound. British humanitarian aid for the crisis would be increased by ?14 million, he said, after being taken to an area of the border where up to 500 people a day are arriving. Cameron was in the country on the final leg of a three-day Middle East tour and is believed to be the first G20 leader to visit Al Zaatari camp. There are an estimated 30,000 Syrians in the camp – half of whom are under 18 years old – although the Jordanian government estimates it has 241,000 refugees in the country.
