David Cohen to visit Asia States on sanctions against DPRK

The U.S. Department of Treasury has said that its pointman on international sanctions will visit Japan, the Republic of Korea and China next week to discuss the implementation of sanctions against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) over their nuclear and ballistic missile programs. During his trip on Monday , March 18-22, David Cohen, undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, will focus on “the ongoing cooperation and consultation” to implement the United Nations sanctions aimed to disrupt Pyongyang’s efforts to ” continue its nuclear proliferation activities and ballistic missile programs,” the Treasury said in a statement , aired over radio sawa on Saturday. Washington has imposed fresh sanctions on DPRK’s individuals and entities after the UN Security Council passed unanimously resolution 2094 on March 7 condemning the Asian country’s third nuclear test on Feb. 12. The United States announced this week that the Foreign Trade Bank in North Korea will be put under the U.S. sanctions.  The official is expected to ask the U.S. Treasury Department from Japan and South Korea to take similar measures.  As for China , it is expected that Cohen urges the Chinese officials to abide by strict UN sanctions.
