Drug trafficking serious threat to SCO countries

Drug traffic and trans-border crime pose serious threat to SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) countries, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon said at the 13th meeting of the SCO Head of State Council on Friday. \"One of the serious obstacles on the way of development of states of our organization is drug threat,\" he said. \"Much is done in this direction on the level of each country and by joint efforts. However, illegal drug traffic has not weakened and poses serious threat to peace and security in the region. So, SCO member countries should achieve a more considerable effect in the area and take preventive measures in combating drug crime,\" Rakhmon said. No state alone can efficiently counteract drug threat. So, Tajikistan\'s authorities actively cooperate with Afghanistan, he said. \"By joint efforts, we have achieved much, but new threats require new efforts from us to ensure security and development of our countries.\" Rakhmon believes the SCO is responsible for further developments in Afghanistan. \"It is necessary to help Afghanistan, which has rich history and culture, to revive its economy. We must morally and materially support our neighbour,\" he noted. \"Tajikistan will contribute to Afghanistan\'s economic development,\" he added.
