Korea
Dubai - Arab Today

Dr. Mohammed Alzarooni, Vice-Chairman and CEO of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for the Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, has received a high-ranking delegation from the Republic of Korea led by Dr Yanghee Choi, Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning.

The meeting, held at DSO headquarters, explored ways of enhancing synergies between the two parties and examined emerging business opportunities in the fields of technology and entrepreneurship.

After exchanging industry insights, the participants identified possible collaborations on various technology-centred projects in the region. Dr. Alzarooni later accompanied the visitors on a tour of the hi-tech park, where he briefed them on Dubai’s investment environment for foreign companies and the modern infrastructure provided for business partners and international technology companies.

He also introduced Silicon Park, the AED1.3 billion smart city project at DSO spanning an area of 150,000 square metres, and the Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Centre (DTEC), a technology incubation hub completely owned by DSOA, which is the largest of its kind in the region, as well as a number of other projects.

"We are pleased to welcome the Korean minister and his accompanying guests, who have shown great interest in our technology hub. Our talks highlighted the advantages that the DSO offers to emerging technology and large companies alike when setting up their businesses in the high-tech park. We are committed to developing a smart technology infrastructure that adapts to evolving business partner and international investor needs and goes a long way in promoting the DSO as a technology hub on a regional scale. The Republic of Korea with its advanced technology solutions can serve as a valuable partner in helping us realise this goal" Dr. Alzarooni said while commenting on his visit.

Dr. Choi commended DSO on its smart city initiatives and praised the futuristic vision of the Dubai government. He was optimistic about IT companies in Korea leveraging opportunities available at the Dubai-based integrated park. He referred to the conglomerate Hyundai, which has established a quality and inspection centre in the DSO.

"We are honoured to have had the chance to familiarise ourselves with DSO and its offerings, and experience first-hand the great progress the free zone has made in the implementation of smart city solutions and support of technopreneurs. We see ample potential for future collaboration and exchange of expertise. DTEC is a centre of immense size and scope that offers vital support to the start-up community in the UAE. We were proud to learn that the incubation hub hosts more than 700 companies, of which 40 percent are Asian," he added.
