Egypt expressed grave concern over the ongoing clashes between the Buddhist ethnic Rakhine and the minority Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar (former Burma) that resulted in a massacre of the Rohingya Muslims. Egypt has been following up Myanmar government's efforts to resolve the crisis, and is calling on it to unite the two groups while ensuring all necessary procedures are taken to avoid any recurrance of violence in the future, Foreign ministry spokesman, Amr Roshdy said. Amr said Egypt will reach out to Egypt's Ambassador in Myanmar and to Myanmar's Foreign minister to convey Egypt's stance on this issue. Egypt has been following up the crisis with the Organisation of the Islamic Organization (OIC) and the Muslim groups at the Human Rights Commission in Geneva and is ready to work with international relief agencies to provide humanitarian aid to the victims of the violent events of Burma. On July 11, Myanmar’s National Human Rights Commission estimated that at least 78 people to have been killed while 90,000 others to have been displaced since the violence sparked off.
