Egypt President unveils plan for peaceful use of nuclear energy

Egyptian Interim President Adly Mansour announced Saturday the start of a project to launch peaceful nuclear energy stations. \"The project aims to meet the requirements of the desired and well-deserved development of Egypt in the decades ahead as the country faces energy challenges,\" Mansour said in a speech to commemorate the 40th anniversary of October 6th victory. He also announced the commencement of the executive steps for the Suez Canal development project, highlighting the right of the Egyptians to have major stake in the project through launching national shareholding companies. He affirmed that the country is forging ahead into the future without any discrimination as per the people\'s will which was expressed in the events of January 25, 2011, and June 30, 2013. \"The new constitution is being developed by people from the broad spectrum of the society and will be complete in the near future,\" he pointed out. He asked the people to celebrate the victory of October 6, 1973, on all street and at squares countrywide, noting that the victory brought about a new fait accompli and opened the way for fair and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. \"Such peace must ensure an end to the Israeli occupation of all Arab territories and the establishment of an independent state of Palestine within the pre-June 1967 borderlines with East Jerusalem as its capital city,\" he affirmed. Mansour reiterated Egypt\'s commitment to supporting the Palestine question, welcoming the resumption of the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks.
