Egyptian army tightens security measures ahead of anti-Morsi protests

Egyptian army has tightened security measures, deploying additional soldiers ahead of the protests to be held on June 30 against President Mohamed Morsi. There are people stranded in queues in gas stations amid rumors of oil shortage in the country and several petrol stations restricted gas sales to 20 liters per vehicle. The US Embassy to Cairo announced that the embassy would be closed on June 30 and called on US citizens to stay out of the protests and stock up food. The British Embassy and consulates as well as the Italian Embassy also said they would be closed on the day of the protests. Saudi Arabia warned its nationals to keep out of the protests. Banks will be closed in regions of risk. Morsi will address the Egyptians Wednesday evening. He is expected to give messages to ease tensions in the country. Opposition blocs in Egypt have planned to take to the streets to stage demonstrations to topple President Mohamed Morsi and the ruling Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) on June 30 on the first anniversary of Morsi in his office.
