Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr said his country has taken a clear position since the beginning of the Syrian crisis based on the rejection of foreign military intervention because of its harms In remarks he gave in Moscow today after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, Amr said there was an agreement between the Russian and Egyptian positions, explaining that both countries are opposed to any foreign military intervention aimed to achieve a solution in Syria.” “We believe that change in Syria, which is undoubtedly coming, should preserves its unity and the multi-fabric of all the spectrums of the Syrian people.” The Egyptian Foreign Minister noted that the Syrian opposition coalition headquarters is now based in Cairo, adding that the Egyptian side is in constant contacts with it in order to draw up a plan to ensure a democratic transition in Syria. He added that the Syrian regime is using extreme violence and heavy weapons against civilians, pointing out that the transition process in Syria that preserves the unity of the country is a must. On the Palestinian problem, Amr said that Cairo has played an important role in achieving the truce agreement between the Palestinians and Israel after the recent Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip and is currently working on strengthening this situation and the completion of the Palestinian reconciliation steps. He called on Moscow to support the convening of an international conference to declare the Middle East a zone free from weapons of mass destruction.
