Cairo - Anadolu

Egypt\'s Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi held talks late Friday with Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings. Talks tackled an army-imposed roadmap for Egypt\'s future, Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel-Ati said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Anadolu Agency. The powerful military has unveiled a roadmap for Egypt\'s future following the overthrow of elected President Mohamed Morsi more than two months ago. The plan features the amendment of Egypt\'s 2012 constitution – approved last year in popular referendum – and parliamentary and presidential elections. According to the Foreign Ministry statement, the talks also focused on developments of the Syrian crisis. Fahmi and Ihsanoglu condemned the use of chemical weapons against civilians and underlined the importance of reaching a political solution to the crisis with the aim of maintaining Syria\'s unity and meeting the people\'s aspirations for a pluralistic democracy, the statement said. The meeting also dwelt on ways of activating the OIC role on spreading the tolerant Islamic teachings and protecting Muslim minorities, topped by the situation of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
