The head of Egyptian military intelligence in Rafah died Tuesday in a car accident near the Israeli border, Egyptian security officials said. Security officers told Ma'an that Lt.-Col. Khaled Abu al-Suoud was killed when his jeep overturned 10 kilometers south of Kerem Shalom. The army chief died on the way to Rafah Hospital. His body was taken to the military hospital in El-Arish. Al-Suoud was conducting searches for Palestinian victims of Israel's latest offensive on the Gaza Strip at the time of the accident, security officials said. In his last statements, he said that Egyptian guards were coordinating with Palestinian officials to search for missing, injured or killed Palestinians inside tunnels under the Egypt-Gaza border that were targeted by Israeli shelling on Monday.
