The Muslim Brotherhood rejected a six-point Iranian initiative on the Syria crisis that allows President Bashar Assad to remain in power until 2014. The initiative calls for a dialogue among the fighting parties to end the current conflict which has killed thousands of people. In a statement, the Egyptian Islamist group deplored massacres committed by the Syrian regime against its people. It pinpointed the reported use of toxic gas as a new escalation in the regime\'s crackdown against the pro-democracy revolt. The group warned against the repercussions of the current situation in Syria, renewing rejection of any foreign military interference. Earlier today, UN peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi met with Assad in hopes of making headway in ending the country\'s civil war.
