Egypt\'s mufti warns against bids to get Azhar involved in politics

Egypt\'s Mufti Shawki Allam warned against attempts to drag Al-Azhar into an ongoing political conflict, asserting that Al-Azhar stands at the same distances from all Egyptians. \"Attacking Al-Azhar or its Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayyeb undermines Egypt\'s security foundations,\" Allam said in a statement on Thursday. The mufti expressed his full confidence that all political movements well recognize the role of Al-Azhar. He also called on all politicians to bridge the gap among them and puts Egypt\'s interests first.
