Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat Saturday stressed that Arab and Muslim nations have unanimously agreed to support the UN bid for a non-member state based on 1967 borders with East Al-Quds as its capital. In a statement issued following meetings he held with a number of European diplomats today, Erekat described as rumors reports about the Palestinian bid to the United Nations. Some reports claimed President Mahmoud Abbas may delay presenting a resolution to the UN General Assembly asking to grant Palestine a non-member state status, the Palestinian news agency WAFA said. Erekat urged Palestinians “to ignore rumors and misleading reports propagated by Israel against President Mahmoud Abbas, the PLO and Palestinian leaders.” He stressed that the UN resolution will be submitted for a vote later this month. The Palestine delegation to the UN distributed on Thursday a draft resolution to the UN member states hoping to get a feedback from them on its text. Erekat also urged European Union governments to vote for the Palestinian bid saying it would be a victory for peace, democracy, and freedom.
