Erodgan, army commanders discuss possible US strike on Syria

Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with army commanders Monday to discuss the situation in Syria after the US said it should attack Syria pending Congress approval. Erdogan met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel and senior commanders of the armed forces to discuss the preparation at the borders with Syria, a statement by the presidency said. The one-hour meeting touched upon the army assessment of the situation on the ground at the borders and preparations for an exodus if the US launched a military strike against the Syrian regime, it added. The army commanders briefed Erdogan on the deployment of forces near the 900-kilometer-long borders, Turkish news reports suggested. Turkey, which supports a military action against Syria, has deployed air defenses at the southern borders and prepared shelters in case of chemical weapons\' attacks.
