German Foreign Minister Steinmeier said who calls freedom of movement into question harms Europe and Germany. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said, on the new regulation of Bulgarian and Romanian citizens to be free to seek job opportunities and live in the European Union (EU), “Who calls the freedom of movement of workers into question harms Europe and Germany.” Steinmeier said in an interview with the daily newspaper “Süddeutsche” that the freedoms of Europe were the heart of European Union and underlined that the freedom of movement was an indispensable part of the European integration. “There are a lot of young people from southern Europe who come for learning and working in our country now. This benefits us and the states from which they come,” Steinmeier pointed out. An official from Europe at the German Foreign Ministry and member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Michael Roth criticized the statements by the Christian Social Union (CSU) on the migration from Romania and Bulgaria, saying, “The CSU does not understand Europe. And obviously they don’t want it. They show it during the coalition talks.” Meanwhile, the Federal Employment Agency announced that about 180 thousand people from Romania and Bulgaria will immigrate to Germany.
