EU foreign affairs chief calls for Gaza calm

The European foreign affairs chief called for calm on Saturday, as cross border violence killed 15 people in Gaza and injured 26 Palestinians and eight Israelis. "The EU is following with concern the recent escalation of violence in Gaza and in the south of Israel," Catherine Ashton said in a statement. "I very much deplore the loss of civilian life. It is essential to avoid further escalation and I urge all sides to re-establish calm."
