Vice-president of the European Commission has accused the British government of whipping up scares to distract people from the UK's real problems David Cameron is stoking up "populist myths" about the European Union and migrants from Eastern Europe to pull the wool over the eyes of voters, a senior official has said. Viviane Reding, the vice-president of the European Commission, effectively accused the Prime Minister and his Government of telling lies to the public to distract people from the real problems Britain faces. Mrs Reding, who earlier this week called for the EU to become a "United States of Europe", accused ministers of whipping up scares over benefit tourism by European migrants "in order not to make people speak about the real subjects in the UK". "This supposed invasion of foreigners coming to the UK and stealing the jobs and stealing the social security and the health money. The fact and figures, and we all know this, show it is simply not true," she said. The commissioner warned that Mr Cameron's populism and Euroscepticism based on "myths" threatened the future of Britain.
