The EU Foreign Affairs Council Friday decided to support the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in the framework of the EU strategy against proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The Council in a statement said it has allocated a budget of EUR 2.14 million for the purpose. It will provide for projects such as science and technology, information exchange, visits to chemical weapons destruction facilities and the preparedness of states parties to prevent and respond to attacks involving chemicals. The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons is the implementing body of the Chemcial Weapons Convention and based in the Dutch city of the Hague.
