The European Commission Thursday has warned the Romanian authorities against the political crisis and power struggle taking place in the country, indicating that it could stand as an obstacle to its integration into the Eurozone in the vote due next September. "I am seriously concerned about the rapidly evolving situation," EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding said in Brussels. The political crisis in Romania is a "great danger" and may call into question this country’s progress towards "full integration" in the EU, warned the EU Commissioner. Reding said she "would not exclude that pressure will increase on the European Commission to continue its special judicial and anti-corruption monitoring of Romania "for several years." "And if there are not very reliable reassurances and concrete actions by the Romanian government with regards to the reestablishment of the rule of law, then the country might lose the years in the progress of full integration into the European Union," Reding added.
